Eastern Foundry Announces Winner of Foundry Cup 2016
Energy Intelligence takes home $10,000 during portable power pitch competition
Arlington VA, March 30th - Eastern Foundry is excited to announce Energy Intelligence as the winner of Foundry Cup 2016! On Friday, March 25th, seven companies pitched their portable power technologies to a panel of judges and the public to showcase the most innovative solution for developing and storing energy.
After an hour of displaying their technologies in a marketplace setting to the public, finalists gathered on stage for a five-minute pitch session. One-by-one they presented their technology ranging from Lithium Ion batteries to solar panels, and after deliberation by the judge's, Energy Intelligence was announced our first place winner and awarded $10,000. Energy Intelligence was also voted the winner of the People's Choice Award and given a $1,000 prize. A second place award was given to Tectonica, an Australian-based power distribution company, who walked away with $5,000.
“We are thrilled with the turnout and result of Foundry Cup this year,” said Geoff Orazem, co-founder of Eastern Foundry. “Revealing these types of portable power solutions to the government is key to increasing the effectiveness and safety of our military and international aid workers. Foundry Cup is a platform for government to get acquainted with solutions that they may have never had the chance to, and that was accomplished this year.”
Energy Intelligence has created a roadway mat that produces power by transferring the kinetic energy of passing cars to a generator. This piece of technology would be able to power forward operating bases, checkpoints and other mobile units out in the field without having to rely on gasoline transportation. Second place winner, Tectonica, pitched their power distribution system which allows the user to send power to specific devices only when needed. The tool provides an accurate readout of how much power is left on each device -- removing the guessing game in determining what "25 percent battery left" actually means.
We at Eastern Foundry would like to congratulate all of our finalists on a job well done! We owe the success of Foundry Cup to your hard work and dedication! Eastern Foundry looks forward to continued success in finding innovative solutions to our nation's most pressing problems at Foundry Cup 2017!
